Suddenly and very unexpectedly, on March 8, 2024, Billy passed away at his home in Fox Lake Cree Nation (Bird), Manitoba.


Billy was born on November 11, 1970 in Gillam, MB.


Billy was a skilled outdoorsman; he loved the land and water very much. He was a skilled hunter, trapper and fisherman. Billy was a mentor and shared his knowledge with all; he taught his children and family members everything he knew. He was also a talented artist, he loved to draw, paint and make beautiful moose antler carvings.


Billy worked for Fox Lake Cree Nation for many years as a heavy equipment operator, construction manager and as operations and maintenance supervisor. Billy’s vision for a cultural camp for the community became a reality with the help of a group of dedicated workers. His dedication to the community of Fox lake was selfless where he worked hard and always did his best.


Billy was a former Chief and caretaker of Fox Lake or Bird as he lovingly always referred to his home community. He was an integral part of the 2019 Manitoba Manhunt and received awards from the province of Manitoba and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.


Billy was known for his humor and teasing nature. If you had a nickname that Billy gave you it meant he cared deeply for you. He was dedicated to his wife and his children. He was a remarkable man, and he will be missed dearly by all.


Billy leaves behind his loving wife, Tamara and his children Sarah, Dakota, Kobe, Robyn, Brooklynn, Pesim, Lynn and grandson Keston. Stepmother: Marie Bighetty. Siblings: Jacqueline Richcoon, Thelma Beardy, Linda Hunt (Tanya), Sheila Beardy, Marlene Beardy, John Beardy Jr. (Nancy), Doris Beardy (Ken) Frank Colomb (Melissa) Elijah Colomb (Bernadette) Hector Colomb, Kurk Colomb. As well as many, many nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and former colleagues


He was predeceased by his mother Sarah Beardy (nee Hunt) and father John Beardy, his brothers Jackie Hunt and Gerald Beardy, and his son Nathaniel Dumas.


Wake service will be held in Fox Lake Cree Nation at the Fox Lake School on Thursday, March 21st at 7:00pm and Celebration of Life will take place in Gillam, MB at the Gillam Rec Centre on Friday, March 22nd 2024 with viewing to begin at 10:00am and Service to follow at Noon, with cremation to follow. Interment will take place in Lynn Lake MB, on Saturday, June 29/2024 at the Lynn Lake Cemetery
