Nancy Hazeltine Pozega Obituary

It is with broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Nancy York Pozega into the arms of our heavenly father and her heavenly family. She left this world on Thursday evening March 7, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.

Nancy was born on March 23, 1940 to the late Harvey D, and Ruth Allen York in Wyoming county where she grew up and lived until her young adult life in Glen Rogers. Moving to Glen Daniel as a young woman to raise her children and live the rest of her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Mike Pozega, infant son Mike Pozega Jr., son-in-law Daniel Goodwin, three brothers, Rev. Wallace, Gary Dessalee, and infant brother Royce York, four nephews, Leslie, Gary, Greg York, and Justin Collette, one great-nephew Chris York, and a great-niece Brooke Melton.

She is survived by a precious son Harvey Johnson, and wife Rhonda of Fairdale, devoted daughters Latricia Goodwin of Pineville, and youngest daughter Candy Trump; who was also her care-giver, three grandchildren Shannon Goodwin, Sellecca Johnson, and Jamie Trump, three great-grandchildren, Cory, Robert, and Serenity, her loving sister Harvella Collette of North Carolina, and sister-in-law Doris York of Fairdale, a host of nieces, and nephews that loved their Aunt Nanny beyond words, devoted friend Teressa Tessaro that she depended on so much, and her two puppies Spencer, and Browser.

Nancy was a born-again Christian of the Baptist faith, having accepted Christ into her life at a very early age. Always being a witness for the Lord to her precious family, friends, and strangers. Nancy led a very full, very hard life. She was a female carpenter, working like a man building houses with her husband. She was a charter member of the Trap Hill Volunteer Fire Department helping to establish, and raise money, etc to help organize this great community service. She was one of the first certified woman firefighters in the state of West Virginia, also serving as a licensed Emergency Medical Technician(EMT). She and her husband were very involved with politics campaigning for different candidates and their many their many causes, and worked the polls as well. They were also involved with GRCR for several years on the planning committee. They ran a mission service for years; providing food, clothing, and the Word of God to those less fortunate. Her door was always open to those in need. She was so talented, loved working on crafts, wood-working, crocheting, yard work, playing cards with her grand-children, and watching game-shows.

The family would like to thank all that kept her in their prayers, those that came to visit, and express their concern for her, the staff and doctors at Raleigh General Hospital (RGH), and Bowers Hospice House for taking such good care of her and us, her family. Almost Heaven Ministry Thank You!

Graveside rites will be held on Friday March 22 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Cory Brooks officiating. Nancy will be laid to rest with her husband and baby. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bowers Hospice House in Nancy's memory. Melton Mortuary and Cremation Center has been entrusted with arrangements and are honored to serve the family.
