Maurice, John (1943 – 2024)

The family announces with sorrow his death in Sturgeon Falls, Wednesday March 13, 2024 at the age of 80 years. Son of the late Harry and of the late Pearl (née Brooks). Beloved husband of Edie (née Chaloner). Loving father of Dana Maurice (Casey Mackereth). Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren John and Paul. Dear brother of Joanne MacLeod. Predeceased by his brother Peter (late Beverley) and his sister Pauline Maurice.

John was generous, kind, and proud. In his younger years he was a physically impressive man who worked six days a week, loathing laziness, his entire life. He was a true perfectionist and craftsman in all of his endeavours including the multitude of folk-art projects garnishing his home and property. All who knew John understood that his compassion and love for animals focussed his attention and dedication towards rescuing and helping the most vulnerable. He would even go so far as to feeding and securing the shelter of neighborhood animals that he felt were neglected, leaving notes in their owner’s mailboxes to remind them to properly care for their beloved pets.

Our hearts are broken over the loss of a wonderful man of few words, with the heart of a giant, but grateful that he is now embracing loved ones that have passed…both human and furry.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Funeral arrangements in care of the Theoret-Bourgeois Funeral Home, Sturgeon Falls. Donations to the Canadian Lung Association would be greatly appreciated.
