Harriet S. Karambellas

<p>Harriet S. Karambellas, 98, passed away peacefully at her home at Bayside in West Fenwick, DE, formally of Olney, MD, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in New Castle, PA to James and Mary Staful on August 19, 1925.</p><p><br></p><p>She was preceded in death by her devoted husband William Karambellas and her cherished sister Erma J. Staful.</p><p><br></p><p>Harriet is survived by her daughter’s Joanne “JoJo” Karambellas and Georgia “Gigi” Karambellas Moss and son-in-law Michael Moss, granddaughter Kara Michaela Moss and loving nieces, nephews, and dear cousins.</p><p><br></p><p>Harriet was a go getter moving to Washington, DC in 1945 to attend Beauty School opening her own shop The Trianon in Georgetown, DC in 1947. She loved dancing and was always smiling and upbeat. She purchased a 1948 silver Studebaker convertible with a red leather interior which showed her personality perfectly.</p><p><br></p><p>A trailblazer in The Civil Rights movement, she employed many minorities from the start. She married in 1949 to William whom she met at church for 52 years prior to his passing in 2001. She retired from hairdressing at age 71.</p><p><br></p><p>A service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Saints Constantine &amp; Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 721 Norwood Road, Silver Spring, MD 20905 where friends and family may visit from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 whose assistance was invaluable.</p><p><br></p>
