<p>We are saddened to announce the passing of Kyriacos Markou of Murrieta, CA. He died at the age of 90 on March 12, 2024, surrounded by family. Kyriacos was born December 1, 1933, in the small village of Kontakeika, located in Samos, Greece to Nikolaos and Elefteria Markou. He was one of five siblings: Vasili, Aggelo, George and Argiro.</p><p><br></p><p>In 1954, Kyriacos met his beloved late wife, Ilitsa Valaskantjis. They would go on to raise their two sons, Niko and George Markou. Upon working many jobs, Kyriacos and Ilitsa managed to give their family a chance at a better life and packed their bags for the United States in 1974. They would go on to fulfill the American dream and open up their first successful restaurant here in California.</p><p><br></p><p>Kyriacos was a caring and devoted husband to his late wife, of 50 years, a strong and loving father to George and the late Niko, and a gentle and funny grandfather, great- grandfather, and great-great-grandfather to many. His work ethic was unparalleled, and his priorities were always centered on being a provider to all whom he held dear.</p><p><br></p><p>May his memory be eternal. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church located at 41132 Guava Street, Murrieta, CA. Funeral proceedings will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, followed by a burial service at Murrieta Cemetery, located at 4200 Ivy Street, Murrieta, CA.</p><p><br></p><p>If you would like to send flowers, please send to Murrieta Valley Funeral Home, located at 24651 Washington Avenue, Murrieta, CA 92562.</p>
