Phyllis R. Grierson Obituary

SOUTH THOMASTON – Phyllis Grierson, 95, passed peacefully, Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Winship Green in Bath.

She attended Thomaston schools and was a graduate of Thomaston Academy. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses.

For several years she had her own lobster boat, fishing out of South Thomaston at a time when very few women were seen on lobster boats, much less running them. For more than 30 years, Phyllis served as a mail carrier for the towns of St. George, Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde. She also worked for Holmes Sardine Plant in Rockland.

Her favorite times were having Sunday dinners for her family and tending to her farm. She loved taking care of her cows and mowing hay on her tractor.

Phyllis had a 1st cousin, David Smith, who she thought a lot of, and they enjoyed talking about their mutual interest in animals and haying. She also had a longtime friend, Beth Myers, who for more than 30 years helped Phyllis with her mail route and during haying season. Beth even corralled her seven children to help in the haying effort.

Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Marguerite Smith Risteen; her first husband Norman Dennison; her second husband Herbert Grierson and a great-grandson Dalton Cross. She is survived by her son Randy Dennison of St. George; her daughter Karen Grierson of South Thomaston; three grandchildren, Troy Cross and his wife Sherri of South Thomaston, Ryan Dennison and his wife Morgan of St. George, Mandy Dennison of Waldoboro, Stacy Grierson of South Thomaston, Sandy Amenta and her husband Dante of CT; two sisters, Jean Rogers of Thomaston and Joan Blanchette of Florida; as well as many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Phyllis family would like to thank all the staff at Winship Green for their wonderful care over the last few years.
