Charles Ray Pate, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 16 at Hearthstone Health Campus.

Charlie was born in Bloomington on October 17, 1940, son of the late James and Wilma (Siscoe) Pate. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from until his honorable discharge in 1961. After leaving the service, Charles worked and eventually retired as a Bloomington Firefighter and stonemason from Bricklayers Local #4. He was a proud member of VFW Post #604, American Legion Post 18, Monroe Lodge 22 and the Stonebelt Shrine Club.

Charlie was a true family man; his grandkids were his world. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course and watching sprint car racing. He even raced stock cars in the 1960’s. He was also a member of the Bedford Boat Club.

Charlie leaves a large family who will all miss him very much. Survivors include son, Chuck Pate; daughter, Christie Webster and her husband Keith; grandchildren, Josh Webster and his wife Lindsey, and Ashlie Kalen and her husband Bryce; great-grandchildren, Maelee Webster, Hardie Webster, Colter “Charlie” Webster, Hallie Kalen, Bria Herndon and Boone Herndon; brother, Bob Pate and his wife Lynda; brother-in-law, Bill Burnette; sisters-in-law, Judy Robertson and Lana Rae Branum and her husband John; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Linda (Robertson) Pate; sisters Carolyn “Toddy” Barger and her husband Vestal, Delores “Sis” Burnette, and Ruth Alice (Bubbles) Pate; parents-in-law, Ed and Louise Robertson; brothers-in-law, Virgil Robertson (Juanita) and Gary Robertson (Peggy); and sisters-in-law, Pam Robertson and June Jones (Homer).

A funeral will be held at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street in Bloomington, at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday March 21, 2024. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. prior to the service. Interment with military honors will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Rev. Harold Godsey will officiate.
