Susan Faber Obituary

On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, Susan de la Mater Faber of Montgomery Village, Maryland, passed unexpectedly but peacefully. She was surrounded by those she loved and that loved her for the beautiful and wonderful person she was. She is survived by her beloved husband Robert (Bob) Faber, her children Lisa Haste (Scott) and Bruce Hicks (Kelly), her step children, Joanne Adams (Greg) and Michael Faber, her sister Tracy de la Mater Goldberg (Donald) and children (Hanna and Benjamin), her brother David de la Mater and children (Lyall, Dylan, and Chase), and her grandchildren Abigail Haste, Andrew Haste, Nicholas Hicks, Paige Hicks, Chris Adams (Ashley), Cameron Adams (Laura) and Joe Faber (Rieley), as well as great granddaughter Willow (Cam and Laura Adams). Not to be forgotten are her beloved show dogs Stryder and Dazzle.

Susan was born in Waycross, Georgia, and being an “Air Force brat,” moved frequently—oftentimes in the middle of the school year. Her moves took her not only cross-country but global, her favorite place being when she lived in Le Vesinet, just outside of Paris. She then settled in Atlanta, Georgia, where she met Bob. They married in August 1977 and shortly thereafter moved to the Washington, DC area where Susan joined the Catholic Church.

Susan worked many jobs throughout her life. Notably, she was a professional ice-skater, a clerk for a judge, and a veterinary technician at Gaithersburg Animal Hospital. She also volunteered as a dog trainer for Capital Dog Training Club (CTA) in Silver Spring, Maryland and continued through her retirement.

Susan was vibrant and full of life. She brought light and love to everyone she met. She would never fail to make you laugh and laughing with her was one of the great joys in life. Susan was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She was a devout member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where she will be greatly missed. Susan was also an active member of the American Kennel Club and took great pride in showing her two beautiful dogs, Stryder and Dazzle, winning countless prizes for her excellent showmanship.
