<p>Rev. Lowell G. Simmons, 85, of Ottumwa, died at 7:15 p.m. March 15, 2024 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.</p><p>He was born September 8, 1938 in Ottumwa to Rev. Leo Gilbert and Gertha Ruth Forbes Simmons. He married Bonnie Joan Richards September 14, 1957 in Des Moines. She preceded him death July 23, 2019.</p><p>Rev. Simmons had served in the ministry as Assistant Pastor, Senior Pastor, Evangelist, College Professor, and College Administrator since 1958. He had been a licensed and ordained minister with Open Bible Standard Churches since 1959.</p><p>He received his theological education from Open Bible College in Des Moines, graduating in 1959. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Education from Evangel College and earned a Master of Arts in World History from Truman State University. Additional studies were done at Dubuque University.</p><p>Rev. Simmons served as Professor of History and Old Testament Studies for 24 years. He taught college classes at Open Bible College, World Evangelism College, and Indian Hills Community College. His college administration duties included Department Chairman, Registrar, Dean of Students, and Academic Dean.</p><p>He had pastored Open Bible Churches in Oskaloosa, Mt. Pleasant, Albia, and the Bethel Church in Des Moines. His work as evangelist was primarily in the Central United States holding meetings and Prayer Power Seminars. He also had ministered for several churches in Trinidad, West Indies in 1981. Rev. Simmons’ ministry not only included Open Bible Churches but congregations of all denominations.</p><p>Surviving is a sister, Marilyn Dunham, of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews.</p><p>He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Mary Ann Simmons; 2 brothers, Gilbert and Jack Simmons.</p><p>Visitation will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday March 20th at Reece Funeral Home.</p><p>Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday March 21st at Reece Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends 1 hour prior to the service Thursday. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines.</p><p><br></p>
