Obituary

On March 7th an amazing and generous spirit left our midst. His beautiful smile inspired people

with immediate affection and acceptance that allowed him to touch their life, however briefly.

Born in Bellevue Hospital, he was given into Foster Care and endured a beyond difficult youth.

At 16 he pursued his own independence and lived in NYC, a true Manhattanite. He worked

variously in retail but his real passion was cooking and baking (universally praised for his

brownies). For many years he volunteered at GMHC’s kitchen and enjoyed serving meals

there. A testament to David’s character, he despised seeing people and animals abused or

taken advantage of. He is remembered for being a “clothes horse”; his love of dogs; stuffed

animals especially bears ; and in recent years travel to such places as Chicago, New Orleans

and Ireland. For almost 20 years David lived at the Narragansett (93rd and Broadway) and for

the past 7 years shared his suite with Larry - his friend & loved roommate. Decades ago, David

was adopted into his partner Frank’s family with open arms. He was especially loved by Aunt

Rose and Cousin Margo, now both deceased. Although David never had a natural family, he

will be buried with this adopted family. David leaves behind many who loved him, especially his

dear friend Elsie Mendez, loving adopted cousin Lori Sturiano, his very special room mate Larry

Robinson, and his beloved lover and partner of 30 years Frank Russo.

Though the life he lived was modest by many standards, his impact on the lives of many others

was huge and lasting.
