John Robert Reeves Obituary

John Robert Reeves, age 64, transitioned on March 12, 2024.

John was born on February 9, 1960, in Washington, D.C., to Harry and Stella Reeves. He was the youngest of three children – always admiring his older brothers Edward and Carvell. He was a beloved father, brother, husband, and friend who touched the hearts of many with his sociable and generous spirit.

John went to St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C. Upon graduation, John moved to Atlanta, Georgia and attended Morehouse College. There, he received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. John would often boast that Morehouse College gave him more than a degree. While there, he gained lifelong friends whom he deemed brothers. After returning to Washington, D.C., John worked in the federal government at the U.S. General Accounting Office. John then transferred his skills to the private sector serving in various management roles within the relocation services industry.

It was in Washington, D.C. that John's path crossed with Shelley, whom he later married in Sacramento, California. John and Shelley were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Taylor. As a devoted father, John poured his heart and soul into raising their daughter, instilling in her values of perseverance and encouraging artistic expression. He constantly reminded Taylor to live her best life. John had a passion for learning. He continued to further enhance his skills at American University where he received his Master's degree in Information Systems. But, his greatest lessons came from the invaluable time spent caretaking for his mother over several years.

John loved cheering on his Redskins (Commanders), exploring art exhibits, attending jazz record fairs, supporting local artisans, and watching sunsets on the water.

As we bid farewell to John, let us remember him for the love and fellowship he shared with family and friends, his knack for entertaining loved ones, and his positive mindset. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

He is survived by Taylor (daughter), Shelley (former spouse), Richard (nephew), Leasella (niece), Marsha (sister-in-love), Veronica (aunt), Susan, Stephen, Trevor, Tony, Laurence, Sandra, Ingrid, Ikechukwu, Ngozi, Ijeoma, Uche, Denise, Herb, and Judith (cousins), and a host of other relatives, loved ones, and friends.
