Harold Gene Miller, 91

Harold Gene Miller, 91 of Ashland passed away early Wednesday morning, March 13, 2024 in his home at Brookwood Place at Brethren Care Village.

He was born on April 17, 1932 in Shay Ridge Independence, Ohio, the son of the late Charles Leroy and Martha (nee Ruppel) Miller.

Gene graduated from Medina High School, Class of 1950.

He married the former Bobette "Bobbie" McManaway on June 18, 1977. Together they would call Ashland home.

Gene retired after more than 30 years as the owner and operator of Gene's Gulf Station in Ashland in 1995.

He was a devoted member of Paradise Hill Church.

Throughout his life, he loved hunting around the United States, fishing on Lake Erie and playing poker. Gene took great pride in his vegetable and flower gardening in his life along with his 49 years of sobriety as a member of AA.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 46 years of marriage, Mrs. Bobette Miller of Ashland; two sons, James (Annette) Miller and Michael (Corrine) Miller; one daughter, Sandie; a step daughter, Carolyn (Donald) Hyne; a step son, Pat Marshall; seven grandchildren, Zachary, Jillian, Benjamin, and Abby Miller, Mary Beth (Thomas) Bilinovich, Shannon Marshall and Nathanael (Jessie) Marshall; several great grandchildren; and one brother, John Miller.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.

A memorial service celebrating Gene's life will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Reverend Chris Stewart presiding. Interment will be in Ashland Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A time of fellowship will follow the service in the Legacy Room of the funeral home.
