Jack Truman Obituary

John “Jack” William Truman, 81, of Ottumwa, died at 7:29 a.m. March 15, 2024 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

He was born March 21, 1942 in Creston to John William and Opal DeBord Truman. He married Jeanette Pearson August 5, 1975 and she preceded him in death April 26, 2015.

Jack had worked at Brown’s Shoe Fit in Ottumwa and as a conductor/brakeman for Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #114 and a social member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Surviving is his daughter, Amanda Brewer of Ottumwa; 2 grandchildren, Amy Palmer and Andrew Pearson; 3 great-grandchildren, Joplin, Lillian and Hank; and sister, Deborah Woollums of Coralville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 children, Reesa Rae Truman, Shawn Tyler Truman and J. Kelly Truman; and sister, Jane Truman.

Visitation will be open at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 17th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 18th at Reece Funeral home. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice serving Davis and Wapello Counties or Ottumwa Noon Lions Club.
