Barbara (Bobbi) Jane Goldman Wittner


April 6, 1938 - March 7, 2024


Barbara Jane Goldman Wittner, affectionately known as Bobbi, peacefully passed away on March 7, 2024, in Carlsbad, California, where she had resided since 1977.


Bobbi was born in Brooklyn, New York, to proud parents Rose Hirsh and Martin Goldman, alongside her siblings Arline, Phyliss, Barry, and Patricia.


One of Barbara's early responsibilities was caring for her siblings Barry and Pat. During frequent walks through Coney Island, she met the love of her life, Miles, at the age of 14 while he was playing handball.


After Miles completed his service in the United States Army, Barbara and Miles were married. She worked diligently to support Miles through college. They had their first son, Alex, in Brooklyn, NY on June 22, 1958 . Their journey together led them from Brooklyn to snowy Syracuse, New York, where they welcomed their second son, Stephen Bradley, on July 4, 1962. Later, they moved to Hartford, Connecticut, where Barbara pursued her degree in Education from UConn. She embarked on a fulfilling teaching career in Darien, Connecticut, before relocating to Del Mar, California, in 1975, where Bobbi and Miles found their love for warm weather, year-round tennis, and the wonderful great outdoors.


In North San Diego County, Bobbi embarked on a new fulfilling teaching career in Oceanside, California, educating elementary students for over 20 years. She taught elementary education at McCauliffe and Palmquist Schools. To make reading fun for Bobbi’s students , Miles built bunk bed-style cubbies. Bobbi's students were able to turn readin* into fun. Bobbi and Miles traveled extensively, exploring destinations across the USA and around the world, cherishing moments in Jamaica, Hawaii, Alaska, India, South America, Mexico, London, and France. Bobbialso hadan immense fondness for penguins. She traveled to Antartica to visit her tuxedos puffin friend's.


Barbara adored Broadway Theater, diverse music genres, and cherished time with her Brandeis sisterhood group.


A devoted mother to Alex and Stephen, Barbara welcomed her long-awaited daughter-in-law, Barbara, in 1982, adopting her into the family with open arms. Together, they shared the joys of raising two remarkable grandchildren, Kevin and Courtney. Bobbi shared a special bond with her granddaughter, Courtney Marie, traveling and sharing stories together. Later, Kevin and his wife, Courtney, blessed Barbara with two great-grandchildren, Willow Joyce and Beckett Miles.


In addition to her passions for reading, painting, and spending time with loved ones, Bobbi was immensely proud of her family, eagerly sharing stories and photos with anyone willing to listen. She cherished visits with family and friends, welcoming them to her home in San Diego.


Bobbi was a trailblazer as a working mother, an organizer of a book club, and one of the original members of Jazzercise in Carlsbad, California.


Bobbi always enjoyed talking with lifelong and new friend’s. Her coffee klatch at her last residence was near and dear to Bobbi, where they would read, enjoy the sun, and plan the evenings movie night.


Bobbi is survived by her brother Barry Goldman of Florida, sister Pat Krejci, Alex and Barbara Wittner, Courtney Marie, Kevin and Courtney, Willow, and Beckett, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.


In lieu of flowers, donations in Bobbi's memory can be made to the San Diego Jewish Federation or the University of Connecticut, Storrs Department of Elementary Education.
