Kathleen A. Vellante Obituary

DRACUT– Kathleen A. (Madigan) Vellante, age 85, a resident of Dracut, passed away at D’Youville Senior Care in Lowell on March 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Harvard on March 19, 1938, and was the beloved wife of the late Anthony C. Vellante with whom she shared 34 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2008.

Kathy, as she was known to family and friends, enjoyed a rewarding career as an elementary school music teacher. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and Nana. Although she stepped away from teaching, she continued to share her love of music through her work at Sacred Heart Church in Waltham, MA. She spent many years as a member of the church choir and eventually became its director. She also contributed to the music ministry at St. Kathryn’s in Hudson, NH in her later years.

She loved spending summers on the beach at The Cape, attending theatrical productions and concerts, cooking and baking in the kitchen, and gave generously to her community. She enjoyed traveling, visiting Greece, Switzerland, and Ireland to list a few. An avid card player, she could play a mean game of Hand and Foot. Kathy also loved watching The Hallmark Channel, Jeopardy, and NCIS.

Kathy’s unwavering faith carried her through every aspect of life. Her devotion to God was an inspiration to those around her. Additionally, she supported numerous charities and organizations over the years, always trying to help anyone she could in any way she could.

Kathleen was a daughter of the late Francis and Mary (Flynn) Madigan and was also mother to the late Andrew Vellante. She is survived by her loving son, Mark A. Vellante and his wife, Stacey of Dracut; her three grandchildren Leah, Hannah, and Evan; her sister Mary Lou Griffin of Worcester; brother-in-law Robert Vellante and his wife Cynthia of Florida; sisters-in-law Jackie Vellante of Waltham, Jean Vellante of Waltham, and Beth Vellante of Andover. In addition, she is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. “Mrs. V” also played the role of second mother to the “Waltham Gang”.
