Obituary

Marcia Gayle Driver, 80, of Denton, TX, passed away on March 13, 2024, surrounded by her

loved ones after a long and courageous battle with COPD. Services will be held March 19, 2024, with a viewing from 8am-12 pm at Oakcrest Funeral Home in Waco, TX and a graveside service at McGregor Cemetery in McGregor, TX at 2pm. Father Nicholas Hadzellis will be officiating the services.

Marcia was born February 12, 1944, in Chattanooga, TN, to Arnold Barker and Margaret Carter Scott. She graduated from Kirkman Technical School in Chattanooga, TN in 1961. She lived many years in Chattanooga until she travelled to Texas where she started her career as a bookkeeper, raised her two daughters, and eventually met the love of her life, Jerry Driver, to whom she married January 25, 2001.

Anyone who knew Marcia knew she was full of life, spunk, and kindness. Her passions included music and dancing, those of which she would often reminisce of dance contests and all the good times she had on the dance floor. She devoted her life to being the cheerleader of the family. In her eyes, her family was nothing less than perfection. She loved each person with her whole heart and made sure they knew it. The thing that stood out about Marcia the most, was that she never met a stranger. She had a real gift for making friends and so often knew just the right words to put people at ease. This beautiful trait about her was so evident even as she entered into the later stages of her illness and life at the Brinker Senior Center making friends with nurses and staff at the nursing home. Various members of the staff would come in daily just to talk to her or say hello, even if she wasn’t on their hall that day. The day she passed away, so many of the staff had tears flowing down their face and came by the room to offer condolences and provide memories and hugs. This is the legacy that Marcia left to everyone who met her. She is an incredibly loved wife, mama, mommaw, sister, and friend. To know her was to love her. Her presence will be dearly missed by friends and family alike.

Marcia is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Carter Scott and her father, Arnold Barker and Stepmother Gladys Barker.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Driver; daughters, Dena Johnson of Krum, Tx and Stacey Driver and husband, Charlie of Lorena, Tx; grand-daughters, Denise Marie of Waco, Tx, Kacie Clark and husband, Adam of Georgetown, Tx, Chris Driver and wife, Devin of College Station, Will (Billy) Coleman of Florida, Kendall and Kylie Johnson of Krum, Tx; great-grandson, Ryker Rivas of Waco, Tx; sisters, Cindy Frizzell, Kathy Bishop, Candy Frizzell, and Becky Crowe; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Brinker Senior Center

(University Rehabilitation Center) for taking such wonderful care of Marcia and Jerry both

during the year that she lived there.
