Obituary

Michael J. Cristante, known affectionately as "Mike" to everyone who had the pleasure of crossing his path, embarked on his final adventure on March 13, 2024. Born on the fifth of July, 1946, in the bustling city of Detroit, Michigan, Mike's journey began as a firecracker baby, and boy, did he live up to that sparkling introduction.

Mike's early years in Detroit set the stage for a life filled with laughter, love, and the kind of personality that could light up a room. He later settled in the cozy embrace of Van Buren Township, Michigan, where he would say his last goodbyes. But let's not dwell on the final curtain call; instead, let's celebrate the symphony of moments that composed the grand opus of Mike's life.

As a devoted husband to Marlene for a remarkable 55 years, Mike was the epitome of a love story that began with high school glances and rekindled in college, leading to a whirlwind romance and a wedding just six months later. Their anniversary, January 17th, was a day of celebration that even Hallmark cards envied. Together, they created a legacy in their daughter, Dina, married to John Matasovsky, and a lineage of joy continued with his granddaughter, Jillian Eichstaedt, her husband Matt, and his grandson, Emmett Matasovsky.

Mike's family roots ran deep, with the memory of his parents, Sereno Sr. and Betty Cristante, both having passed before him, as well as his brothers, Larry and Robin. Their spirits and stories were a cherished part of Mike's rich tapestry of life.

For three decades, Mike was the proud owner of Jo-Seppe's Enterprises, where he wasn't just the boss; he was the heart and soul. His colleagues knew him as a man who could negotiate a deal with a handshake and a smile that sealed more than just contracts-it sealed lifelong friendships.

A proud member of St. Michael Lutheran Church for 45 years, Mike's faith was as strong as his handshake. He was the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back and then joke that you better return it laundered and pressed by Sunday service.

Mike was the personification of Mr. Personality. Large in stature, he was often likened to a big teddy bear-a gentle giant whose kind and giving nature knew no bounds. He loved to tinker in his garage, a magical place where broken things went in and came out fixed, much like the people who visited him there.

His garage, affectionately known as the "magic garage," was where he conjured up his craftsmanship. Mike was a talented woodworker, and his handmade, painted dominoes sets were not just game pieces but tokens of his love, distributed far and wide.

An outgoing fellow, Mike had a zest for life that included fishing, golfing, and playing cards. He wasn't just playing for chips or bragging rights; he was playing for the stories, the camaraderie, and the pure joy of the game.

And oh, how he loved musicals! His was a life lived in a constant melody, with an appreciation for the dramatic flair of a well-performed show tune. Mike's life was a musical in its own right-a composition of kind acts, faith-filled moments, and handy solutions.

In a world that often takes itself too seriously, Mike was a breath of fresh air, a man who could find the humor in the everyday and the extraordinary. He was a reminder that life is not about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away.

So here's to Michael J. Cristante-husband, father, grandfather, friend, and the epitome of a life well-lived. As the curtain falls, we applaud the man who was indeed 'Mr. Personality,' whose legacy will continue to echo with laughter and love. Curtain call, Mike, take a bow.
