Martin M. Arum Obituary

Martin M. Arum, 76, of Bethlehem, PA formerly of Staten Island, NY died Wednesday, March 13, 2024 in Lehigh Valley Hospital – Muhlenberg, Bethlehem.  He was the beloved husband of Gail (Levine) Arum with whom he celebrated 51 years of marriage on April 9, 2023.  Born in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late Carl and Bessie (Herman) Arum.  A graduate of Seward Park High School, Manhattan, Martin received his Bachelor's Degree from Brooklyn College, New York City.  An English and Math teacher, Martin taught for the New York State Department of Correctional Services working out of the former Arthur Kill Correctional Facility for over 38 years before retiring.  After retiring and moving to Bethlehem, he taught classes for GED and SAT Prep at Northampton Community College.  Martin loved to tell jokes and loved anything Disney.  He enjoyed listening to music and was a dedicated attendee of local musicals.  A member of Congregation Brith Sholom, Bethlehem, Martin loved the Bible and enjoyed teaching and sharing it with others.  He was a prominent member of the community who loved getting people together with planned social events.  A talented artist, Martin shared his passion for drawing with his granddaughter Callia. 

Survivors: adored wife, Gail; treasured son, Seth and his wife Kimberly of Rutland, MA; beloved granddaughters, Teah and Callia; and faithful grand-dog, Snickers with whom he had a special bond.  Martin was often referred to as the Canine Candyman.  He was predeceased by his brother, Joel. 

 Service: Funeral Service 10:00AM Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Congregation Brith Sholom, 1190 Macada Rd., Bethlehem, PA. 

Interment Service 1:00PM Sunday, March 17, 2024 at United Hebrew Cemetery, 122 Arthur Kill Rd., Staten Island, NY.   Arrangements are being handled by the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem.
