Joyce LaNell Goddard Obituary

Joyce (Richey) Goddard entered into eternal life on March 12, 2024, at the age of 88 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Joyce was born on November 15, 1935, in Mountain View, Oklahoma to Fred and Noma (Drennan) Richey.

Her family moved from Mountain View, Oklahoma to Phoenix, Arizona when she was around four years old. Her mother passed away six years later. Her dad remarried and the family gained a caring stepmother, Mary (Legare).

At the age of 15, after visiting her aunt Flora (K.C.) VanWinkle, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the decision was made for her to stay. She attended Capitol Hill Junior High and Southeast High School. It was in Oklahoma City that she met, William (Bill) Goddard, who two years later would become her husband of 71 years. Together they raised five children but had an impact on many more as they were house parents at the Tipton Children’s Home for 8 years and welcomed many youths into their home and treated them as one of their own.

Joyce considered herself a homemaker and loved to sew, garden, and work in the yard. In later years, she babysat for many of their neighbors. Her love of God was evident as she was an active member of the church of Christ and taught Children’s Bible Class for most of her life. She was a member of the Cerebral Palsy Parent Group and volunteered with the local schools and community activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Noma Richey, stepmother Mary Richey, sister Norma (Warren) Branson, brothers Tom Richey and Andy Richey, Aunt Flora (K.C.) VanWinkle, sons Paul Goddard and Richard Goddard, daughter Noma Lynn Goddard.

She is survived by her husband, William, daughter LaDeana (Steve) Peden, son Tom (Rhea Dawn) Goddard, daughter-in-law  Vicki Goddard, Six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, sister Fran (Weldon) Turner, sister-in-law’s Dianne (Richey) Muir and Norma Richey, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to thank Traditions Health Hospice and Morada Southridge Senior Living for the loving care they provided.
