Cecilia L. Mikla, 97


Cecilia L. Mikla, 97, passed away Wednesday evening, March 13, 2024, at Brethren Care Village in Ashland.


She was born to her parents, John C., and Cecilia (Geiger) Ryan on August 25, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio.


Cecilia is a graduate of John- Marshall high school.


On July 3,1948 she married the love of her life, Peter Mikla, with whom she shared four children. Peter and Cecilia met while dancing at the Agora in Cleveland, OH.


For many years, Cecilia was a dedicated seamstress and floral arranger at a wedding center, from which she later retired.


Cecilia was a devoted member of the St. Angela Merici Roman Catholic Church in Fairview Park, OH.

In her free time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, and making rosaries that she would donate to the Catholic Church. Cecilia and Peter loved going on cruises and being a part of the Northeast Ohio Buick Club of America. A fond memory her children shared was Cecilia’s love for women’s baseball. She was picked to play for a team in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, made popular by the 1992 movie, a League of Their Own, but sadly was unable to join.


Cecilia is preceded in death by her two brothers; Albert and John, two sisters; Dorothy and Margaret, her parents, and a son; Peter Mikla Jr.


She is survived by her sister, Virginia Crouse of Fairview Park; her sister-in-law, Patricia Ryan of California; her children; Dave (Gayle) Mikla of Ashland, Cecilia (Robert) Loper of Florida, Lawrence (Mindy) Mikla of Florida, grandchildren; Cindy (Greg) Hawks, Lori (Perry) Welch, Mike (Teresa) Mikla, September (Roger) Drouhard, Bruce Mikla, and Liam Mikla; six great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.


Per the family’s wishes, no services will take place.


Cecilia will be laid to rest beside her husband, Peter, at Holy Name Cemetery in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania.
