Iris Lind Avery

<p>Iris Lind Avery, also known as Momma Avery, passed away on March 12, 2024,&nbsp;at the age of 66</p><p>in Gastonia, NC. She was a beloved wife, mother,&nbsp;sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and high</p><p>school teacher. Momma Avery never met a stranger and showed unconditional love to everyone</p><p>she met. She had a passion for crafting, decorating her home for each season, baking, going to</p><p>the movies, and shopping. Her students knew she was always there for them, no matter the</p><p>circumstance. She was the true definition of showing&nbsp;unconditional love.&nbsp;</p><p>Momma Avery was a proud Army spouse of 22 years and a retired schoolteacher with over 20</p><p>years of experience, earning the title of "Teacher of the Year" twice. She was graduated from</p><p>Troy University, Alabama, with a bachelor’s degree in education and a minor in Psychology. She</p><p>was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church of Gastonia.&nbsp;</p><p>She is survived by: her husband of 41 years, Paul Hadden Avery, Jr.; her sister, Cherise Coe</p><p>Vaughn; her three children, Ashley Lind LaCourse (Jason), Christopher Aaron Avery (Lauren),</p><p>and Abigail Lind Carter (Madison); and her grandchildren, Addison, Elora, Bryson, Hermione,</p><p>and Jacob. Preceding her in death are her parents, Clyde Hillary and Jennie Lind Coe.&nbsp;</p><p>A memorial service in honor of Momma Avery will take place on Saturday. March 23rd at 10:30</p><p>am at First United Methodist Church (FUMC), 190 East Franklin Blvd, Gastonia, NC, followed</p><p>by fellowship and refreshments in Gunter Hall, FUMC. In lieu of flowers and in honor of</p><p>Momma Avery's passion for education and teaching, donations can be made to the FUMC</p><p>Scholarship Fund, PO Box 218, Gastonia, NC, 28053, or drop off your favorite unused children's</p><p>book to your local elementary school (she would always sign and date the inside cover.)</p>

Iris Lind Avery, also known as Momma Avery, passed away on March 12, 2024, at the age of 66
