Richard A. Mayo Obituary

Richard A. Mayo, 75, of Hancock, NY, died suddenly on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at home. He was born on August 2, 1948 in Hancock, NY, the son of Albert B. and Doris (Stanton) Mayo.


Richard spent his life in Hancock, NY. After graduation, he served honorably in the US Air Force. He was a cook for over 30 years and worked at several restaurants including the Delaware Inn and retired from the Hancock House Hotel. He also worked for several years at Mallery Lumber. Rich was a big Yankees fan, enjoyed wrestling, and was a QuickDraw fanatic. Rich was an active member of the American Legion Post 209 in Lake Como, PA. He often participated in the Honor Guard as well as ceremonies and local parades.


Surviving are his fiance, Rhonda Charles; son, Justin Mayo and his mother, Sherri Van Lone; 2 sisters, Carol VanDuser and Joan Novobilski and her husband, Joseph; 5 nieces; 1 nephew; as well as great nieces and nephews; sister in law, Kathy Rollison; and brother in law, Russell Charles. Rich was predeceased by his parents and his brother in law, Don VanDuser.


Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 from 11AM-1PM followed by a memorial service at 1PM all at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock.
