Sally Diane Martin Obituary

Sally Diane (Rorick) Martin, 79, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2024 in Garden City, KS. She was born September 2, 1944 in Garden City, KS, to Guy Wesley and Yvonne (York) Rorick.


Sally was raised in Stanton County and graduated from Johnson High School in 1962. After attending one semester at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO, she returned home to marry her high school sweetheart, Larry Martin, on December 20, 1962. They established their home on her parents’ farm SW of Manter, KS. In 1977, they were able to purchase their own farm in Stanton County near the Colorado border where they farmed until the early 1990’s. They moved to Garden City in 1992. Sally earned her Real Estate license on April 17, 1992, and became a member of the Garden City Board of Realtors, the Kansas Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. She served as the president of the Garden City Board of Realtors in 2001. In 2005, she earned her Broker’s license and started her own company Windmill Real Estate. After retirement, Sally and Larry enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and an occasional visit to the casino to try their luck on the slots.


Sally’s family was her greatest joy, and she will be remembered for her unconditional love for and unending devotion to them. She was a phenomenal cook with pies and homemade bread being two of the things her family looked forward to on the holidays. She enjoyed flower gardening and found solace in the outdoors among the many blooms that she nurtured.


In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children-Larilee (Steven) Josserand of Garden City, KS, Melody (Tim) Pfaff of Randolph, KS and Guy (Gabby) Martin of Johnson, KS; 10 grandchildren-Amanda (Brett) Rolfs, Molly (Mike) Swientek, Logan (Teresa) Whearty, Garrett (Katiey) Martin, Lexi (Josh) Volk, Megan (Justin) Zielke, Gylee (Kirk) Iverson, April Josserand (Chester Steinfort), Gage (Sadie) Martin, and Sami (Ryan) Borg; 12 great grandchildren- Jaidynn, Trysten, Brantley, Macee, Westyn, Jordy, Jaxon, Braxton, Ryleigh, Mason, Bodie and Hazel with three on the way; siblings-Shawn (John) Brack of McCracken, KS, and Shane (Audra) Rorick of Lyons, KS; sister-In-Laws-Dorothy Shull, Mary Lou Martin, & Janet Martin.


She was preceded in death by her parents-Guy & Yvonne (Snooky) Rorick, sister and brother-in-law-Marsha and Robin Jacquart, brother-Gary Rorick, brothers-in-law-Bob Martin, Gene Martin, and Bud Martin, and sister-in-law-Janis Martin.


Family and friends are invited to greet the family from 4-6 pm on Friday, March 15 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Memorial service will be 10:30 on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Garanand Funeral Home. Casual attire is encouraged. A private family burial to be held later at Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, KS. The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N 7th Street, Garden City, KS 67846.
