Charles Arthur McConville Obituary

Charles “Chuck" Arthur McConville, age 90, passed away on March 11, surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Irene; parents, Charles and Mary (Washburn) McConville; and brother-in-law, Tom Holloran. He is survived by his children, Susan (Jon) Erickson, Margaret (Aaron) Voigt, Kathryn (Patrick) Fox, and Matthew (Dianne) McConville; 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and sister, Patty Holloran.

Chuck was an active lifelong resident of south Minneapolis who loved his city. As a kid, he delivered the morning and evening newspapers to the Tangletown neighborhood, played sports at local parks, and often hitchhiked down Nicollet Avenue to watch the old Minneapolis Millers play baseball. He attended Annunciation Grade School and graduated from Washburn High School in 1951. He attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a master's degree in education. After serving in the Army at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, AK, Chuck became a special education teacher and then principal in the Minneapolis Public Schools for over 30 years. He was a dedicated educator and touched the lives of thousands of students.

In 1957, he met Irene, the love of his life, and together they had 4 children. Chuck had many lifelong friends from elementary and high school and was active in his church. His love for his family was only rivaled by his love for dogs, specifically Golden Retrievers that he trained in obedience and won national championships. Chuck and Irene spent many weekends at their cabin in Wisconsin with family where he enjoyed playing cards, boating, using his chainsaw, socializing with neighbors, and fixing everything that broke. In 2004, Chuck and Irene began spending their winters in Naples, FL where they made many friends from all over the country.

Chuck was the ultimate cheerleader for the underdog. He was always the first to help those in need whether it was a stranger, student, friend, or neighbor. He believed in giving people second and even third chances. Everyone loved to be around Chuck and his great sense of humor. He put people at ease and made them feel welcome. He will be remembered for his positivity, love for his family, Minnesota sports, jazz music, and electronic gadgets. Special thanks to all the staff at The Waters Senior Living on 50th.
