Obituary

Jane L. Green, 75, passed peacefully on March 9, 2024, at her home in Marshfield where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, after a battle with cancer.

Jane was born on July 6, 1948, in Burlington, the daughter of the late Converse and Mary (Riggs) Barnes.

She graduated with the last class of WHS in 1966 in Waterbury Vermont.

Jane began working at the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury in 1966 and graduated from Vera Hanks School of Nursing in 1979 as a Psychiatric Technician. She was the first woman who was hired to work on the men's maximum-security ward. She was very proud of this fact. She later retired from the State of Vermont where she had worked for 32 years on July 31, 2003.

Jane was well known as “Mean Jane Green”, and whenever someone caught wind of her name that’s the first thing they’d call out with a big smile on their face.

After retirement, she spent her winters in the Sunshine State of Florida soaking up the sun and spent summers at GoosePoint campground where she enjoyed cruising on the golf cart.

Jane enjoyed lawn sales, lottery, and “rip off tickets” as she called them, her “stories” (Young and the Restless and Bold and the Beautiful) and faithfully watched them daily. She also enjoyed her Saturday trips to visit “The Crew at Arthurs”. Jane loved her Elvis, Campfires, and White Russians.

Jane is survived by her son Greg and daughter-in-law Jodi Green of Waterbury, and daughter Tammi and son-in-law Steve Luce of Marshfield, who cared for her in her final moments and Jane made sure to tell everyone how thankful she was for that and the fact that they built her “such a beautiful room to come and live in”. Jane is also survived by her brother John Barnes and wife Joon of Lawrence, Indiana and sister Rose Farkas and wife Betty June of Lady Lake, Florida.

She was most proud of her “Six Grands and Six Greats”; Her grandchildren - Kristy Bowen, Amanda Durand, Kayla Miner, Lauryn Green, Colin Green and Jacob Green, and her Great Grandchildren - Emma, Matthew, Raegan, Felicity, Evelynn and Alice.

She is also survived by her great friend Arthur Cubit, of Waterbury, who showed her the best friendship she could have asked for. Jane is predeceased by her daughter Marjiane Barber, Partner of 38 years Ron Farnham, ex-husband Merrill Green, her parents, and her beloved dog Stormy.
