Elouise Hurta Obituary

Exie “Elouise” Melcher Hurta passed away Monday March 11, 2024. She was 85 years old, born on May 16, 1938 to Ramie Flynn and Frank James Melcher. She was the 8th child of 10 children.


She worked in Gretna, Louisiana at Turn Key Realty with Claudia Haupt, realtor and friend. Her most interesting job was a cook on a Riverboat and she also worked at the Place for Fish in Kosciusko, MS where she could make everyone she came in contact with feel warm and welcomed with her smile. She went to school in Kosciusko.


She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hesterville Chapter #400.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Ramie and Frank Melcher, her brothers and sisters, Mildred Burden (Roy), Richard Melcher, Louise Lawrence, Estelle Black (Gerald), Janie Carpenter, Jessie Ramage (Boyd), Jimmie McCool (Charles), Betty Simmons (Larry), and Freddie Melcher (Sue). Also, she was preceded in death by 11 nieces and nephews.


She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, Linda Black Carley (Sonny), Jerry Black (Kim), Billy Black (Emily), Neal Ramage (Christine), Brenda Self, Peggy Gilliland (Dave), Charles McCool, Jr, Glenda Adams, Tracy Moser (Jack), Laurie Valentine, Alisha Stapleton (Steve), James Melcher (Donna), Freddie Earl Melcher and numerous great nieces and nephews who loved her.


Her niece, Brenda Self was her caregiver.


A celebration honoring Elouise’s memory will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Oak Ridge Church of Christ in the Oak Ridge Community. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
