Ripley: Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Julio, 93, of Ripley, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Her strong faith in the good Lord Jesus has guided her entire life and path to Heaven.

She was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on February 9, 1931 to the late Edward and Senja “Jenny” (Walikangas) Line of Hancock and she attended Hancock Schools. In her earlier years she worked at Siller's Cafe in Hancock and at Copper Range Laundry in Houghton.

On December 7, 1955 Betty married the love of her life, Lawrence Julio of Ripley. Along with raising her family, she worked in the office of her husband's business, Julio Contracting of Ripley for many years.

Betty was a devout member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock where she participated in the prayer shawl ministry (a prayer warrior), the Legion of Mary, the Altar Society, and taught in the church CCD Religion classes. She also volunteered in the St. Joseph-St. Patrick Catholic School in Hancock.

She loved to read, enjoyed knitting, gardening, boating, and was an avid world traveler. She was also known as an excellent seamstress, and will be known as a very kind and loving person. As homemaker and loving mother, she was a leader and loving mother, she was a leader for many of her children's activities. Taking care of her family was very important to her. Betty Ann was the most beautiful peaceful soul. She was a true servant of God. Her total life exuded God's teaching “love one another as I have loved you!”

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence Julio, three brothers: Tom, Eugene, and Ed; two sisters: Eunice and Gladys; by a granddaughter, Nichole; and a grandson, James.

She is survived by her six children: Ann Julio, Bonnie Julio Teliin, Elizabeth Julio, Larry Julio, Breita Julio, and Lori (Fred) Wuori; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rose and Ellen; one brother, Gustaf; and many nieces and nephews.

 

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Friday, March 15, 2024 at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock with Reverend Father Corey Litzner to officiate. Spring burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. Friends may call at the church from 11 A.M. until 11:45 A.M. on Friday before the Mass.

 

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Church of the Resurrection in the name of Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Julio.
