“For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.” Isaiah 41:13. “There for, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the lord” I Corinthians 15:58. Alna Weis Abbott, 93, gained her heavenly reward on March 12, 2024. At the time of her passing she was a resident of The Lodge At Lane. She was born in Zachary, Louisiana on December 2, 1930 to the union of Joseph D. Weis and Lillie Loudon Weis. She attended Westlake schools and graduated from Zachary High. She lost her father when only a few months old and gained a loving stepfather Harold F. Yantis Sr. Alna attended LSU by taking the train from Zachary to LSU. She married Charles A. Abbott, Sr in 1951 and had 58 wonderful and glorious years together. She was employed by Nelson and East Ford in Zachary for many years and then worked briefly for the Capital Area Transit System, from where she retired. Alna was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star where she was an active member of the Chapter in New Roads, then the Chapter in Baker and finally the Chapter in Zachary. She served with honor and excitement as the Louisiana State Eastern Star Worthy Grand Maton from 1983 to 1984. She and her husband help found and establish St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Zachary, where she faithfully attended and was very active in many of their activities. She was the last surviving charter member at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles A. Abbott, Sr; her father Joseph Weis; her mother Lilly Yantis; her stepfather Harold Yantis Sr., and her brother Joseph D. Weis. She is survived by her son Charles A. Abbott, Jr. (Kathy); daughter Dianne Gill (Jerry); Grandsons Karl Abbott (Amanda), Chris Abbott (Gabreilla); great grandson George Abbott; granddaughter Brittany Hough (Matt); great grandson MJ Hough. Also survived by her brothers Harold Yantis, Jr (Nan) and Loudon Yantis. The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to all those at The Lodge that lovingly provided for her care and well-being. The family also wishes to thank the caregivers at the Hospice of Baton Rouge. Pallbearers are Charles A. Abbott, Jr; Jerry Gill, Karl Abbott, Chris Abbott, Matt Hough and Chad Yantis. Honorary Pallbearers are Loudon Yantis and Harold F. Yantis, Jr. Visitation will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Zachary on Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, with a 7:00pm Order of the Eastern Star service. Services will be at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church on Monday, March 18, 2024, with a visitation from 9:00am until funeral services at 10:00am, with Father Dan Krutz officiating. Burial following the church service at Shaw McHugh Cemetery, where she will rest eternally by her husband and father.
