Penrose -Thelma C. “Teri” Lasky, age 83, passed away Friday, March 9, 2024.

Teri was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1940 to Moe and Sally Lasky. The family moved to Long Island in 1953 where Teri attended and graduated from high school in Rockville Centre. She attended Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL, and received a B.A. in Spanish and French in 1961.

She began working in the Personnel Office at the United Nations and then lived in Paris in 1962, perfecting her French at the Alliance Francaise and returning to N.Y. to teach French at Long Beach IHS. and. then, Ludlum School in Hempstead while taking graduate courses at Hofstra University.

In 1970, Teri moved to Lakeland, Florida where she was the Equipment Distribution Supervisor for the W.W. Williams Co., a heavy equipment distributor and went on to become the office manager for a local gastroenterologist. She always enjoyed the variety of different jobs and learning new skills.

She began hiking and camping in and around the Blue Ridge Mountains in the 1990's, became enamored of Brevard, N.C. and relocated to Little River in 1999. She worked in the front office of Medical Associates of Transylvania for 6 1/2 years before retiring.

Teri remained interested in the French language her entire life and had been active in the French speaking group that met weekly at the Bracken Bakery in Brevard.

She loved the beauty of the mountains and did a lot of hiking on the surrounding trails, including hiking to the top of Cold Mountain, throughout the Shining Rock Wilderness and Table Rock State Park in S.C.

In later years, she returned to her love of traveling, and was able to realize her #1 "Bucket List" destination, Machu Picchu, Peru, as well as Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Australia and New Zealand, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and several trips back to her beloved France.

Teri will be laid to rest at the United Hebrew Cemetery in Staten Island, N.Y. where her parents are interred. Contributions may be made in her name to the Moe Lasky Scholarship Fund at Florida Southern College, Office of External Affairs, 111 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland, FL 33801.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Moe Lasky Scholarship Fund at Florida Southern College, Office of External Affairs, 111Lake Hollingsworth Dr., Lakeland, FL 33801.


A memorial service will be held from 3pm to 5pm Sunday, March 17, 2024 at the Little River Community Center. Teri will be laid to rest in the United Hebrew Cemetery in Staten Island, NY next to her parents.
