Albert I Hawkins Obituary

Albert I. “Ike” Hawkins Jr., 76, beloved partner of Patricia (Main) Rosso of Westerly, and a friend to all, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 9, 2024.

Born in Westerly, he was the son of the late Marion and Albert I. Hawkins Sr., and grew up on Wells Street in Ashaway. He was a graduate of Chariho Regional Junior-Senior High School in Richmond and earned the rank of Eagle in the Boy Scouts.

Ike was the owner and operator of Hawkins Well & Pump for many decades and was also the former co-owner of Jake’s Food Machine in Westerly. He also established and operated the Brick Oven Restaurant in Ashaway. Ike was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an avid outdoorsman, spending many hours hunting and fishing throughout the area. He was also a past member of the Ashaway Sportsmen’s Club.

He loved to push himself to try various things, like building his own in-ground pool, bee keeping and various construction projects, as well as a maintaining a menagerie of animals like goats and chickens. When it came to Yankee ingenuity, he always said that if man made it, he could repair it, and he made good on that boast over and over.

In addition to Patricia, he leaves behind a daughter, Jessica Babineau and her husband Ron, and a son, Justin, and his wife Laura; two step-sons, Michael and Brian Rosso; four grandchildren, Drew, Tori and Owen Babineau and Josie Hawkins; as well as four step-grandchildren, Brennan, Liam, Uma and Bodhi Rosso. He also leaves behind his beloved Bernese Mountain dogs, Rosie and Mabel.
