<p>Mrs. Mary Theresa Arsenault</p><p><br></p><p>Of West Newton died March 9, 2024. She was 98.</p><p><br></p><p>Mary Theresa Arsenault was born January 25, 1926 in Margaree Forks on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia a daughter of the late Dennis and Rose (Cormier) LeBlanc. Resident of Waltham and West Newton since 1946. </p><p><br></p><p>She earned her Nursing Diploma in Glace Bay Nova Scotia at St. Joseph’s Hospital.</p><p><br></p><p>She started her career in the emergency department at Newton Wellesley Hospital. A few years after her first three children were born she started working part time at the Leland Home in Waltham where she worked for many years. Later she worked at the Swedish Home in Newton. She retired when her husband, Vince, became ill and stayed home to care for him.</p><p><br></p><p>Once retired, Theresa became an active volunteer. Having seen firsthand the difficulties cancer patients had getting into Boston for treatment she started volunteering for the Dana Farber driving patients in for treatment. She received a Community Leadership Award from the Dana Farber for her dedication after many years of volunteering. She also volunteered at the Marist Hill Nursing Home and Sacred Heart Church and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary at the French American Victory Club in Waltham. </p><p><br></p><p>In addition to her volunteer activity Theresa enjoyed spending time with family and was always helping out babysitting and taking the grandchildren to doctors' appointments or whatever else she was needed for. In her spare time, she enjoyed pursuing her passion for quilting. She not only gifted treasured quilts to family and friends but also generously donated many lap sized hand quilted quilts to women’s shelters and Project Linus. Theresa also enjoyed reading biographies, playing scrabble and working on jigsaw puzzles.</p><p><br></p><p>Theresa was predeceased by her husband, Vincent in June 1988; her brothers, William, Bernie and Leonard; her sisters Verna, Christine, Claudette, Viola, Mary Louise, and Josephine; her sister in laws Lorraine and Theresa and her son-in-law John Greco. </p><p><br></p><p>She is survived by her daughters Barbara (Ian) Griffin, Perth Australia; Pamela Arsenault (Peter Williams), Bartlett, NH; her sons Thomas (Maureen), Tyngsborough, MA; Robert, Berlin, NH; and Arthur, Berlin, NH; her grandchildren Nicole (Mike) Vanderlinde, Bud Sullivan, Amy Griffin, Samuel Griffin, Angelique (Jarrod) Dunning, and Vincent Arsenault; her great grandchildren Silas and Hazel Dunning; her sister, Marion Crowell; her brother-in-law's Simon Roach and Francis MacNeil; her sister-in-law Beatrice LeBlanc; and many nieces and nephews. </p><p><br></p><p>Those who wish to pay their respects to Theresa and her family can do so in the Brasco &amp; Sons Memorial Funeral Home, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Thursday March 14th from 3pm until 7pm. Parking attendants will be on duty.</p><p><br></p><p>Family and friends are welcome to gather and celebrate Theresa's life and remember the love and friendship she shared with so many others at a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, WALTHAM on Friday morning March 15th at 10:00 am.
