Mary Patricia Hesgard Obituary

Mary Patricia Hesgard otherwise known as Pat or Patty passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7th, 2024 at Rock Cove Senior Living in Stevenson Washington surrounded by her husband, sister, daughters, great niece and many of her grandchildren. She was welcomed into eternal life by her parents as well as her daughter Debbie. 


Pat was born on March 23rd 1938, she lived a long fulfilled life passing away at the age of 85. She lived most of her life in Cascade Locks on a beautiful plot of land that she and her husband owned thanks to her Dad. She moved to Cascade Locks for the first time in 1942. She then moved to Portland where she resided for 32 years before moving back To Cascade Locks in 1992. In 2021 She moved to Stevenson Washington under the care of Rock Cove Senior Living.


On February 12th, 1955 she married her best friend and husband Ralph Nels Hesgard in Stevenson, Washington. They were married for 69 beautiful years and renewed their vows in 2005 on their 50th Wedding Anniversary at their local church. She attended school in Cascade Locks, Oregon and was proud to be a Pirate. She worked as a Housekeeping Manager at Odd Fellows Friendship Health Center for 21 years. Pat was very involved in her community. She was president of the PTA, a Blue Bird Leader, a member of the Women's Fellowship at Cascade Locks Church and The Garden Club, as well as President of the Columbia Gorge Lions Club where she was selected to receive the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. She also volunteered for the SMART Program, among many other volunteer opportunities throughout her life. She loved to keep herself busy with local activities as well as supporting her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in all of their endeavours. 


She is survived by her husband Ralph Hesgard (Cascade Locks, OR) whom she was able to love and build a beautiful family with for 69 years. Her two daughters Vickie Marie Jung (1955) and Tena Kaske (1959) (Cascade Locks, OR) Pat had 9 grandchildren and was an amazing great grandmother to 20 great grandchildren. She also was privileged enough to have 2 great great grandchildren one of which she did not have the opportunity to meet as well as two more on the way to arrive in May and September. She is also survived by her sister E. Martena Pennington who she was able to have as a neighbor for most of her adult life. Pat also had her numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins that made up her wonderful family that she loved so much. 


She is predeceased by her parents William F. Irving (1992) and Afton D. Irving (1939). Her five brothers Lamont Irving (2010), O.D. "PeeWee" (1974), Walter J. Irving (1976), Richard C.Irving (1956), and Seth Taylor (2010) As well as her sister Afton D, Dykman (2003). She is also predeceased by her youngest daughter Debra Lynn Haggard Hammond (2006)


Pats service will be held Saturday, April 6th, 2024 at 2:30pm at Cascade Locks Community Church officiated by Glen Damen (5 Benson, Cascade Locks, Oregon 97014). There will be a reception to follow in the church basement. If you would like to view and say goodbye to Pat you can do so at Anderson Tribute Center in Hood River Oregon from 12-7pm on Friday, April 5th. 


Pat was loved by many and the world was a far better place with her in it. She will be missed dearly but her family is happy that she is no longer suffering and is once again reunited with so many of her family members in heaven.
