William Edward Moore Obituary

William “Uncle Bill” Moore passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Wailuku after a hard battle with cancer in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 24, 2024. He was a loving father, husband and uncle, a big-hearted generous friend and philanthropist.

He was born and raised in Glencoe, IL, until he went to Ripon College in Wisconsin. While a student at Ripon, he became a huge fan and shareholder of the Green Bay Packers.

He remained a lifelong Packers fan, evident by the packer gear he wore proudly. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army and rose to the rank of Sergeant while stationed at Fort Knox in Kentucky.

Soon after the Army he fell in love with Maui while visiting his sister who had moved to the Valley Isle after college. He eventually also moved to Maui and made Lahaina his home in the 1960's. Later in the 90’s, he had a part time home in Portland, Oregon, for several years where he still has many friends and family. He was a philanthropist and supporter of many local organizations, businesses and causes including Girls Softball, the Maui Food Bank, Planned Parenthood, and being an avid reader the hundreds of books that he read were all donated to the Friends of the Library in Pu'unene. He loved hula and Hawaiian music and was a generous supporter of the Hale Makua Luau Fundraiser. Bill served for 25 years as the President of the O.L. Moore Foundation, which supported many local charities and organizations on Maui and in Portland, Oregon.

Bill was a world traveler, taking his first international trips as a young boy with his family that sparked his lifelong love of travel. He continued to travel throughout his life, visiting every continent, often by cruise. He also had a love for automobiles and would often be seen washing his cars and driving around and enjoying the sunshine on Maui. Bill had a keen sense of humor and never missed a “dad joke” or a good pun. He worked at the Napili Kai as purchasing manager for several years before retiring.

He is survived by his wife Laurie Keyhani-Moore, son Joshua Moore, daughter in law Vicki Kalkirtz-Moore, stepchildren Christiane and James Keyhani, nephews and nieces Brian and Debbie Mahuna, Peter and Marshawna Mahuna, Sandy Mahuna Kukahiko, along with eight grand nieces and nephews, his dogs Max and Maile. Bill was preceded in death by his sister Dee Anne Mahuna, his parents Edward and Dorothy Moore and his beloved dog Marky.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, with a private ceremony to scatter his ashes directly after. Part of his remains will be interred at the Holy Innocents Columbarium along with his sister and parents, once it is reopened and repaired from the damage it suffered from the Lahaina fire.
