It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son and brother, Michael Samuel Johnson, who left us on March 9th, 2024. Michael passed away in Pleasant Valley, NY at the age of 45. He was called Myael or Mike by his friends and fans. He was born on May 19th, 1978 to Wayne and Nancy Johnson in NY. Michael lived on Long Island, NY during his childhood and early adult years. He graduated from Sts. Cyril and Methodius Elementary School in 1992. Then Michael went on to study at Saint Anthony’s High School and received his diploma in 1996. After moving to Pleasant Valley in NY, he attended Dutchess Community College and received an associate's of science with a concentration in Chemistry in 1999. Much later, he received a second degree from Dutchess, this time an associate of arts in humanities and social science in 2018. He graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in English world literature and creative writing from Marymount Manhattan College in 2021. Mike is survived by his parents, Wayne and Nancy Johnson, Trina Blythe (née Johnson) and her spouse Stephen Blythe, younger sister Elisha Johnson, nieces and nephew Kate, Will and Emily Blythe. He is also survived by Aunt Jill Ward (née Simpkins) and Uncles Charles, Gary and Craig Simpkins. In addition, he leaves behind cousins Steven, Clarissa, Jennifer, Tasia, Maurice, Jason, Joe, Chanel, Brandon, Ariana, Wesley, Kirstin, Chelsea and Josh. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother Nancy Simpkins, paternal grandmother Gladys Johnson, and Aunt Shirley Simpkins. Mike held many jobs during his life, most notably, he worked as an IT specialist for IBM and Boehringer Ingelheim. He was especially proud of his work with students with disabilities as an adaptive technology specialist for Marymount Manhattan College. His most recent job was at the Millbrook School where he was loved by many. Under the moniker Myael, he was an author, musician, song writer, artist, book publisher, photographer, and costume designer. Considering himself a renaissance man, Myael believed that his creative endeavors encompassed his true career. Myael was first and foremost an author. He published five of his own books and three for clients as the CEO of Transcendental Expressions. Myael’s personal works are as follows: Emancerian Chronicles: Signs of the First Emancer (2015), Emancerian Chronicles: Why We Fear the Shadows (2019), The Poetic Stylings of Myael Simpkins (2017), A Charcoal Pencil and Graphic Art Portfolio (2022), A Compendium of Transcendental Music (2023). Myael taught himself both piano and guitar. Myael always enjoyed attending open mic nights at local venues and often organized and ran these events. He touched the lives of many with his heartfelt performances. Mike will be greatly missed by his family and friends Academic awards and honors include: Dutchess Community College Dean’s list (1997) Marymount Manhattan College Alpha Chi-National College honor Society (2020) Omicron Delta Kappa-National Leadership honor Society (2020) Sigma Tau Delta-International Honor Society (2021)
