Janice M. Hockenberry

<p>Janice M. Hockenberry, 87, a resident of the Orrstown Personal Care Home, formerly of Newville, departed this life on the morning of Saturday, March 9, 2024.</p><p><br></p><p>She was born on September 12, 1936, in Fayetteville, a daughter of the late John C. and Mary G. (Winger) Forrester. Janice married Paul L. “Huck” Hockenberry, on September 9, 1957, in Smithsburg, MD. He preceded her in death on July 16, 2010.</p><p><br></p><p>Janice was a devoted spouse, mother, and grandmother throughout her life. She was totally dedicated to her family, was a wonderful homemaker, and had such a great love for children. So much so, that Janice was very well known and sought after to provide childcare to many families in the Newburg area over many, many years. It seemed at times that everyone wanted Janice to look after their children.</p><p><br></p><p>She is survived by her own three children, Randy L. Hockenberry of Ft. Loudon, Brenda G. Pentz and husband Michael of Shippensburg, and Keith C. Hockenberry of Newburg; seven grandchildren, Casey Rakes of Thurmont, MD, Charmarie Chamberlin of Shippensburg, Eric Hockenberry of Newburg, Ashley Hunsinger of Newburg, Alysia Hockenberry of Shippensburg, Laci Hockenberry of Newville, and Danielle Gomer of Newburg; sixteen great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; a brother, John Robert Forrester of Chambersburg; a nephew whom she thought of as a son, David C. Forrester of Greencastle; and several other nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to her parents and husband, Janice was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.</p><p><br></p><p>Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Newburg First Church of God, Newburg, with Ms. Megan Gustafson officiating. Private interment will be held in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Visitation will be concurrent with a meal served after the service on Friday afternoon at the church.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newburg First Church of God.</p><p><br></p>
