Helen Miller, loving mother, grandma and great-grandma, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Home, Melville, SK.

Helen was born on a farm near Duff, SK. She was the oldest of four children born to Fred and Margaret (nee Kraushaar) Schneider. She attended Yola school. On August 3, 1950, Helen married Walter Miller at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Duff, SK. Together they began farming in the Birmingham district, working hard and enduring tough times. In 1995, they sold the farm and moved into Melville, enjoying town living. Due to health issues, they moved to Queen Street Manor in 2007.

Helen was always prepared for company; whether it was family, friends or whoever stopped by, they were welcomed in for a coffee and a bite. Many great memories were made when the grandchildren were visiting and got to be part of making buns, kuchen or butterhorns. They knew there would be a package waiting to go home with them.

Helen enjoyed being able to attend many activities, recitals and graduations of all her grandchildren and some of her great-grandchildren. Each of them was very special to her. Helen loved music and loved to sing; she could be heard singing or humming while she was milking the cows, hauling bales or working in her garden. Some favourite pastimes were sewing, crocheting, going for coffee and being involved in the Ladies Prayer Pal group. Sundays were kept as a day of rest and attending church. Helen’s strong faith and trust in God gave her resilience through the many challenges she faced.

On May 26, 2020, Helen became a resident at St. Paul Lutheran Home. Life totally changed for her, but even in her last days before her passing, she was singing in her own way.

Helen will be missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Gordon, and Darlene (Heinz) Jendrasheske; grandchildren Kimberly (Chris) Fenske, Joel (Cathy) Miller, Aaron Miller, Stacey (Tom) Stennes and Melissa (Josh) Kretsch; great-grandchildren Easton, Olive and Raine Fenske, Lyla and Brody Miller, Jaida and Logan Stennes, and Hunter and Asher Kretsch; sister Marjorie (Jack) Hanlon; sister-in-law Lucille Schneider; brother-in-law William Schindel; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Walter; parents Fred and Margaret Schneider; sister- and brother-in-law Adeline and Reinhold Miller; brother Norman Schneider; mother- and father-in-law Emelia and George Miller; sister- and brother-in-law Erna and Fred Hauser; brothers-in-law Arthur and Erwin Miller; and sister-in-law Esther Schindel.
