J. Wellington Crane Obituary

J. Wellington Crane (Tinker) 87, of Sea Girt, passed away peacefully at Jersey Shore University Medical Center on March 8, 2024 surrounded by his family and on the wings of love. His boundless optimism and determination to return home again was an inspiration to us all.

Tinker was born in Trenton, NJ to Dr. J. Wellington and Eleanor (Walsh) Crane, and was raised in Rahway, NJ. He attended Rutgers University and graduated from Newark College of Engineering. Following his graduation, he accepted employment with the United States Army, Electronics Command at Fort Monmouth, NJ. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the Army. Early in 1962, his active-duty obligation fulfilled, Tinker continued his service as an Army Reservist and returned to his position at Fort Monmouth, assuming a role in the Avionics Research and Development Activity (AVRADA).

During his professional career, Tinker travelled extensively and supported many vital military endeavors. He provided technical expertise and leadership throughout Army aviation. Much of his spare time was spent as an active member of the Sea Girt Fire Company and in support of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 55.

Following his retirement in 2001, Tinker turned his focus to projects around the home and could often be found offering advice to family and friends on an endless “to-do” list.

Tinker was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Mary Broussard. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Julia Ann (Belmonte), brothers Richard, Jeffrey and wife Mary, sister Caroline, sons J. Wellington (Tres) and wife Jennifer, Gregory and wife Lynn, grandchildren, Alexandra, Robert, Lauren, Maeve, Owen, Dara, and many nieces and nephews.
