<p>Steven John Martinez, 74, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2024 at home. Steve was affectionately known as “The Best Dad” by his wife, children, and dogs, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support that touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.</p><p><br></p><p>Born on May 10, 1949, in Winthrop, MA, Steve was the beloved son of Barbara Croxford Martinez and Eugene Martinez. He had a childhood full of fun adventures with his three brothers, Paul, Bob, and Barry. They were active in Sea Scouts, which is a branch of the Boy Scouts, and Steve proudly became an Eagle Scout, an honor that he shares with his brothers, son, and son-in-law. He continued to serve his community as a volunteer firefighter for over 10 years with the Cranbury Fire Department.</p><p><br></p><p>Steve was a devoted husband to Phyllis, his loving wife of 51 years and best friend of 60 years. Together, they shared a bond built on love, respect, ultimate friendship, and mutual support.</p><p><br></p><p>As a father, Steve was an inspiration to his children, Annie and Rob. He instilled in them values of integrity, hard work, and compassion, shaping them into the remarkable individuals they are today. His guidance, wisdom, and unconditional love will forever resonate in their hearts.</p><p><br></p><p>Steve earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Tufts University and his Masters in Business Administration from Rider University. Steve first worked as a Physics teacher for Winthrop High School. He then enjoyed a successful career in pharmaceuticals, ultimately becoming President of a pharmaceutical company before his retirement. He later re-entered the industry as a consultant for a variety of other pharmaceutical companies around the world. He approached his work with dedication and enthusiasm, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients.</p><p><br></p><p>Outside of his professional endeavors, Steve had a passion for sailing, reading, vintage automobiles and caring for two Irish Setters. Whether he was taking his 1949 Pontiac to a car show or taking his boat out for a cruise, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life, and cherished moments spent with family and friends.</p><p><br></p><p>He is predeceased by his parents, brother Paul, and sister-in-law Joanne. He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis, his daughter Annie and son-in-law Greg, his son Rob, his brother Bob and sister-in-law Shelly, his brother Barry, his sisters-in-law Debbie, Barbara and Mary, his nieces Jessica, Elizabeth and Jennifer, and his nephews, Jon (Christine), Scott (Delia), David, Patrick and Michael, along with numerous other relatives and friends who will mourn his passing.</p><p><br></p><p>Steve will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His gentle spirit, infectious laughter, and compassionate soul will leave an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. Though he may be gone from our sight, Steve’s memory is a beacon of love and light guiding us through the days ahead.</p><p><br></p><p>A funeral to celebrate Steve's life will be held on March 15, 2024, beginning at 10:30am at Queenship of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 16 Dey Rd., Plainsboro Township, NJ 08536, with his burial following this mass at Brainerd Cemetery, 22 South Main Street, Cranbury, NJ 08512.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cranbury Volunteer Fire Department in honor of Steve Martinez.</p>
