Morris Alexander Lewis, Jr., was born in Washington, DC on November 9, 1936, to Ellistine (Bannister) and Morris Lewis, Sr. Affectionately known as “Butch,” Morris attended Armstrong High School in Washington, DC, and later Prince George’s County Community College.

In 1970 Morris met Cassandra “Casey” (McCain) Allen whom after a long and loving courtship he married on August 28, 1981. Morris and Casey loved to travel and were members of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, which took them all over the country. Together, they would become long time members and leaders at Largo Community Church and served for a time at First Baptist Church of Glenarden. Morris was active in the community serving on numerous boards and committees across the state. Morris was also a 40-year member of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Washington, DC.

Morris had an entrepreneurial spirit and with Casey started an Amway business in the 1980’s. Morris was also founder and General Manager of Robin Vending and Sales, a retail vending business where at its peak provided vending services to 24 locations throughout the DC metropolitan area. Morris was also an avid race car fan and owned a Formula One race car, which he raced in numerous events during the early 1960’s. NASCAR was a passion for Morris and on the weekends, you could count on finding Morris during his retirement perched in his favorite chair watching NASCAR races from start to finish.

Morris’ career was dedicated to a life in law enforcement beginning in 1956 when he joined the Metropolitan Police Department at the age of 20. At that time, the force was segregated, and Morris served in an all-black unit of the force until the force was desegregated in 1964. Over the next 24 years, he rose through the ranks until he retired from the Metro Police Department on August 28, 1980, at the rank of Detective. His career in law enforcement continued when in 1988, he was appointed the Chief of Police for the City of Glenarden, Maryland - a position he held until his final retirement in 1995. From 1995 to 2002, Morris served with distinction as the Executive Director of the Maryland Chiefs of Police Association. Over his long, honorable career, Morris received numerous distinctions and awards including those bestowed on him by Pope John Paul II, a governor, a senator, the Maryland State Police, and the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.

Morris went to be with his Lord on March 10, 2024. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Loretta (Charles), son Alexander, and grandson Mason. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife and partner of 55 years, Cassandra, sons Carl Allen (Deborah), Martin Allen (Kamala), John “Latif” Allen (Naimah), a daughter Robin and a host of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends.
