Elizabeth Christine McIver Obituary

Elizabeth Christine (Kindrix) McIver BSN, CRNA, RN age 83, of Columbus, OH, formerly of Decatur, GA passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024. in the comfort of her home. Late that evening, the clouds lifted, and the Lord ushered her to heaven.

Liz, the third eldest of eight, was born on May 13, 1940, to the late Corrie and Alice (Floyd) Kindrix in Columbus, OH. She was a woman of faith and loved the Lord, accepting Jesus Christ at a young age. She later rededicated her life to Christ.

She graduated from Columbus East High School, and she went on to attend cosmetology school but then realized her passion was nursing. In 1972, she earned an Associate of Science in Nursing degree and was the only African American in the first graduating nursing class at Columbus Technical Institute. Soon after, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree specializing in Nurse Anesthesia from The Ohio State University. Liz broke barriers as she was one of few African American nurses to be granted entry into The Ohio State University College of Medicine at that time. Liz was a Registered Nurse with an active license for 51 years.

Liz was curious and her inquisitiveness and keen intellect drove all her pursuits. She was driven, and her passion whatever she did, she was all in! She was a member of the NAACP, National Black Caucus, National Black Nurses Association, and the Delta Epsilon Tau Honor Society.

Liz also had a knack for creativity and creating beautiful things. She was an artist who drew and painted artwork. She was a singer and a fashion designer creating a few masterpieces which she had made. She was a book author publishing two books about her family history. She was also an educator teaching many student nurses. She was an entrepreneur and a health guru who constantly challenged her grandchildren to weightlifting competitions. She also ran in the Dekalb County Senior Olympics in 2013, winning a Bronze Metal.

Liz had a genuine love for others and that love enforced her to want to help the constituents in the district where she resided, and she ran for a chamber seat in The Georgia House of Representatives. Along the way she interacted with a lot of people including Coretta Scott King, Rev. Jesse Jackson, former Mayor of Atlanta Maynard Jackson Jr.

Liz loved her family and shared many stories of her grandmother Carrie, who would take her to the Lincoln Theater, and they would watch scary movies, which crafted her love for scary films. She loved traveling back to Ohio to visit family and attending family reunions in Ohio and Chicago, IL. She loved dancing and listening to Motown music.

The love and tender care given by her daughters, the phone calls with her son, the FaceTime video calls with her great- granddaughter, and visits from her sisters and her grandchildren received during the final weeks of her life were a tremendous source of joy, peace, and comfort to her.

Family Who Went Before

Waiting for her as she crossed into heaven’s gate, she was met with a hug from her son Keith Bosley Sr; loving and devoted daughter -in -love Carolyn Bosley; loving and devoted son- in- love Wendell Clayton; and sister- in- love Donna Kindrix. They are now rejoicing in each other’s arms.

Liz was also predeceased by parents, Corrie Kindrix and Alice (Floyd) Willoughby; sisters, Marietta Geer, and Denise Howell; grandchildren, Aaking Long and Brandon Graham; nephew, Michael Holland; nieces, Christina Kindrix, and Tina Carruthers; Aunt Katherine; Cousin Phyllis, and Big Tony.
