Helen Myhre Obituary

Helen Delaine Myhre, the daughter of Allan and Evalyn (Peterson) Nelson was born on June 14, 1934 in Harvey, North Dakota. She died at the age of 89 years on Sunday, March 10 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, North Dakota.

Helen was raised in Harvey where she graduated from high school. Following high school, she attended college at North Dakota State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. She continued her education at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo and received a degree in Medical Technology. While in college, Helen met Robert Myhre and they were united in marriage on August 31, 1958 in Harvey. The couple moved to Rugby in 1959, where they made their home and raised their children. She worked at the Rugby Hospital before her and Bob purchased Myhre’s Clothing Store. They owned and operated Myhre’s from 1970 to 1997 and had stores in Rugby, Bottineau, Grand Forks, Wahpeton and Devils Lake. In September of 1997, they retired from the business. She had a love of flowers and worked at the Rugby Greenhouse, where she also made lifelong friendships.

Helen treasured her time at Lake Metigoshe with her family. She spent many hours in her yard with her flowers and loved feeding the birds, never leaving the feeders empty. If you ever went to her home to visit, you were always offered plenty of food and drink, never leaving with an empty stomach. She enjoyed the visits so much that she kept talking to you as you went out the door. She was an active member of the First Lutheran Church where she enjoyed quilting, helping with office work and taking care of the flowers. Helen was probably best known for her love of cats…Heaven definitely received a crazy cat lady, who will be missed dearly.

Helen is survived by her three children, Brad Myhre of Wichita, Kansas, Brenda (Karl) Solie of Rochester, Minnesota and Mark (Cindy) Myhre of Lakeville, Minnesota; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; her 2 cats, Mia and Mandy; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob (2001); an infant son, David and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 15 at First Lutheran Church in Rugby and burial in the spring in the Persilla Watts Cemetery in Rugby. Pastor Sharon Baker, officiating.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby.

Casket Bearers: Brad Myhre, Mark Myhre, Karl Solie, Tony Engelstad, Kyle Solie & Brandon Solie
