Mary June Martin Becnel passed away peacefully at the age of 90. A proud native of New Orleans, she attended St. Anthony of Padua grade school, Dominican High School, and graduated from Charity Hospital School of Nursing.

In 1962, June relocated with her family to Thibodaux where she became an active member of St. Genevieve Catholic Church and School. She dedicated herself to nursing, serving as a clinical nurse for Dr. Raymond Calecas and as a public health nurse.

June is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, John Eli Becnel, and her children: Regina Finn, Joan Bourg, Jane (Jonathan) Durocher, Jolene Brock, James (Christine) Becnel, and David Becnel. June also leaves behind 27 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Vesich, her parents, Clifton Joseph and Cecilia Moise Martin, and sister, Ray Martin.

June will be remembered for her gentle demeanor and empathetic spirit. She had a deep love for her family and cherished spending time with them. June found joy in reading, chronicling family memories in photo albums, and listening to music. She believed in nurturing positivity in children and often shared the wisdom: "Never tell your children they are bad. Tell them they are good because they will become what you tell them they are."

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at St. Genevieve Catholic Church with visitation beginning at noon until funeral time at 2:00pm.

She will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
