Jeanne Alexander Butler Obituary

Jeanne Alexander Butler, a resident of Olive Branch, MS, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, March 6,2024. Jeanne died peacefully in Somerville, TN after a brief illness.

Jeanne will be deeply missed by her children: Ron (Chris) Butler of Flower Mound, TX, Randy (Teri) Butler of Houston, TX, Robin (Joe) Shelton of Somerville, TN, Ryan (Amanda) Butler of Round Rock, TX; her grandchildren: Natalie Butler, Meagan (Sean) Rebler, Robert (Knar) Butler, Lauren Butler, Alex Taylor, Daniel Taylor, Emily Butler, and Isaac Butler; her great-grandchildren: Braxton Rebler and Cohen Rebler; her sister, Joyce McGar; her brother-in-law, Allen (Virginia) Butler and sister-in-law, Bettye Butler. She is preceded in death by her husband and by her parents.

Jeanne was born on February 23, 1934 in Pontotoc, MS to R.E. “Sparky” and Lonnie Mae Alexander. Her classmate since elementary school, Thomas Wayne “Tom” Butler, became her high school sweetheart and then her husband in 1954. She attended Wood Junior College (MS) then the University of Mississippi.

Jeanne was the epitome of a helpmate to her husband. She raised their children as they made their home in several states (MS, TN, FL, TX) during their marriage. She was a lifelong Methodist and was actively involved as a church member wherever they lived.

After retirement, Tom and Jeanne enjoyed travel, time with grandchildren, and church involvement. In 1998, Tom and Jeanne built their dream home in DeSoto County, MS.

Jeanne is remembered by her children as a devoted wife and mother and as a meticulous planner. For any family gathering, she prepared almost all the food, making sure that each person had some of their favorites to consume. By her example, Jeanne instilled in her children enjoyment of music and of studying the Bible.

A graveside service was held March 10, 2024 at Pontotoc (MS) City Ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to First United Methodist Church in Pontotoc, MS or to Hernando (MS) Methodist Church- Building Fund.
