Don Strickland

<p>Don Strickland Jr., 70, a resident of Slaughter, went to his eternal home on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Don began his career at the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office in the EBR Parish Prison and he then served in Uniform Patrol. Following that, he moved to Detectives where he worked his way up through the ranks to become Captain of the Detective Division. He then served as Captain of Reserves before retiring as Captain of Central Substation, with 31 years of service. Among many other accomplishments, Don assisted in the efforts to bring a Crime Scene Investigations Unit to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was a graduate of the Louisiana State University Law Enforcement Institute. </p><p>Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., Zachary from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., Zachary from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in Redwood Cemetery, Slaughter. </p><p>Don is survived by his wife of 12 years, Tammy Strickland, children, Jennifer McGuire (Mike), Christy Tate (Jeremiah), stepchildren, Joshua Innes (Jilly) and Emily Parent (Brian), father, Donald L. Strickland, Sr., siblings, David Strickland (Nicki), Terri Hymel (David) and Laura Strickland, grandchildren, Cade Tate, Tallon Tate, Drake McGuire, Savannah Tate, Maylee Dee McGuire and stepgrandson, Tripp Parent and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Strickland. He was a beloved husband, Daddy, PawPaw, friend and mentor. Don found strength in the hope of God and was a man of strong faith.</p><p>Don loved to spend time on his tractor and with his two German Shephards. It's been said that Don was a dedicated man to doing his job and helping others no matter what. He was an inspiration to everyone. He was a true man of the people. He cared for and mentored the deputies whether you were in his direct command or not. </p><p>The loss of Don will be felt forever. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him, worked with him and for him and those who loved him deeply. </p>
