Antonio Moretti Obituary

MORETTI, Antonio (Tony) -

Antonio (Tony) Moretti was born on the 19th of August, 1940 in Cosenza, Italy to Enrico and Emilia Moretti. He passed away, surrounded by his loved ones, on March 9th, 2024 at the age of 83. He was a devoted husband to Giuseppina for 57 years, and a loving father to their children Emilia (Giovanni), Sylvia, Nadia (Brendan), Sandra (JP). He was a cherished Nonno to his grandchildren Isabelle, Madeline, Alexander, Evelyn, Emmet, and Elliot. He will be missed by his brothers Giuseppe (Elvira), Aldo (Rosanna), Vincenzo (Maria), Paul (Tiziana). He loved fiercely and his loyalty, playfulness and sparkling wit brought joy to those around him.

Tony immigrated to Canada in 1958 onboard the Saturnia with his mother and brothers, landing in Halifax, then boarding a train to Toronto. As a barber in Italy, he carried his ambitious hard work to build Moretti’s Hair Center with his brothers, a thriving business for over 50 years. With the same dedication, he built a happy home with Giuseppina and their children. He is the heart of his family, and they’ll always keep a place for him at Saturday Night Dinner. If Tony was not at the shop, you would find him in the cantina with his wine or in the garden with his tomatoes and figs. He loved to travel with his family, especially if it included a dip in the ocean. But for Tony, all roads led to Rome.

Tony connected people across countries, generations, relatives and friends. He opened his arms to everyone who walked through the shop door, his legacy lives in the precious moments that we shared. Totonno, Toto, To, Antonio, Tony - his name was known in many ways but he stood steadfast in hospitality, warmth and generosity. He will be missed by friends and relatives near and far.
