Duane Locke Obituary

Lindon "Duane" Locke, 67, of Choctaw, Oklahoma, formerly of Shawnee, peacefully passed away on March 8, 2024, in Oklahoma City.

Duane was born February 15, 1957, in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Olif and Marcus Locke. He had one brother, Frank, and three sisters, Glenda, Mary Nell, and Donna.

His family moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma in 1960. Duane attended Shawnee schools.

On March 9, 1991, Duane married Jana Ruth Adler, at the First Baptist Church of Indiahoma. They were married 32 years.

Duane loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed going to garage sales, gun shows, watching television, and taking road trips. He liked to be adventurous in doing things, except for riding amusement park rides, even though one of his early jobs was at Springlake Amusement Park in Oklahoma City.

He started Swope's Gas Station in 1976, working as a wrecker driver and gas station attendant. In 1978, Duane began working as a block operator for Wolverine Tubing for the next 11 years. After that, he worked at TDK Ferrites for 11 years, as a quality inspector before his health caused him to take an early retirement.

Duane didn't let his illness slow him down too long. He decided he would spend the rest of his life doing what he loved - working for himself. He started Locke Wrecker Service. Later on, he decided to try something new. He went into business with his longtime friend, George Fellows. They started D&G Pawnshop. After George left, Duane continued the pawn shop and sold used furniture. His next adventure was going to gun shows and selling guns.

Preceding Duane in his death were his parents, his wife Jana, and sisters, Glenda and Mary Nell.

Duane is survived by his brother, Frank Locke, and sister, Donna Cotton, and her husband, Jimmy. He has three nieces, Jan Locke, Kathy Green, and husband Michael, Zena Loy, and husband Jonathan. He has several great-nieces and great-nephews, and two great-great nephews.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on March 13, 2024, at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Service will be on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Living Love Christian Center in Shawnee, with Pastor Mark Guinn officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
