<p>Harry Lee “Pete” Alston, Sr., age 88, of 800 W. Ridgeway Street, Apt 508, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.</p><p>Pete was born June 24, 1935 in Granville, North Carolina to the late Floyd and Ethel Thorpe Alston. He worked in the Maintenance Department of the former Chesapeake and Ohio Hospital and also Alleghany Regional Hospital, and following retirement, worked for Nicely Funeral Home for a number of years. He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, choir member, Men’s Chorus member, and Usher Board member. He was also a member of the John W. Barnes Lodge # 305.</p><p>In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Harry Lee Alston, Jr. and Lenwood Alston; a sister, Brenda Alston; two brothers, Floyd Boisey and Harvey Boisey; and also a step daughter and step son.</p><p>He is survived by his wife, Hester Bell Alston of Clifton Forge; a daughter, Cynthia Alston and two sons, Michael V. Alston and Donald Alston, all of Roanoke; three step children, Jermaine L. Winston, James R. Winston, and Artis R. Brown; grandchildren, Dominique (Bryon) Mann of Winston Salem Tarsha Jeter-Alshinow of Brenham Texas, Karrina Winston, Karita Michelle Winston, Antwon Starkey, Sashay Brown;</p><p>great grandchildren, Brielle Mann, Khalifa Alshinow, Jaleel Alshinow, Trinity Jeter; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.</p><p>A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Ronald Baker officiating, assisted by area ministers.
