 Leo Peter Smith, 87, of Uniontown, Pa passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 6, 2024 with his family by his side.

Leo was born March 16, 1936 in Crete, Nebraska.

He was the son of Peter and Helen (Strelowe) Smith of Crete, Nebraska.

 He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Helen, his brothers Robert, Clarence, William and Martin Smith, his sisters Helen Smith, Ester (Smith) Sheirmeyer and Mildred (Smith) Kreuzberg.

Leo is survived by his wife, Sarah (Kramer) Smith, his sons Lance (Annfee) Smith of San Antonio, Tx, Craig (Lourdes) Smith of Uniontown, Pa; his daughters Lorrie Friday of Windsor, Co., Christina Silva, Lisa (James) Millan, and Casandra (Robert) Wood all of Uniontown, Pa; 16 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren.

He served in the air-force for 3 years and was discharged with honors in 1961. Leo was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1669, VFW Post 265, Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree of Assembly number 926, and The American Legion. He drove school bus for Uniontown School district 18 years. He briefly served as Council President in Ohiopyle, Pa while owning/operating the Falls Market. He worked as store owner of the Falls market alongside his wife, Sarah (Sally), for 35 years. He made a vast amount of friends whom he considered family and many acquaintances while in Ohiopyle. This was the highlight of his life, as he always dreamed of having his own business. Some of his best memories and stories come from his years in Ohiopyle. He was also a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and usher.

Leo loved God, his family, country music, his cowboy boots and western movies. He was an avid member of the community and willing to help anyone in need. He was always full of energy and humor, often joking around with anyone/everyone he came across. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.

Family and friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME FARMINGTON on Saturday March 9 from 12pm-3pm and from 5pm-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joan of Arc Church on Monday March 11 at 11am with Reverend James Petrovsky officiating. all family and friends are welcome.

He will be laid to rest at The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Washington County.
