Obituary
Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Jensen nee Kemp passed away peacefully with
family at her side in Hamilton, on March 5, 2024 at the age of 82.
Eldest daughter of the late George Michael and Ivy Kemp, Betty was
born August 26, 1941 in Toronto.
Betty is lovingly remembered by Freddy, her devoted husband of 61
years as well as her son Peter (Meredith) and as Nana to Paul, Luke,
Margaret and Thomas. She is also survived by her siblings Donald Kemp,
Diane Jackson, William Kemp (Carolyn) & Robert Kemp.
Betty grew up in Toronto first on Logan Ave. then Waverley Rd. in the
Beaches. She started working for the Toronto Fire Department at the
age of 16. In 1962 she married the handsome Danish fellow she had
helped convince her friend’s mother to accept as a boarder. Through
hard work and sacrifice, she and Freddy built a beautiful home
overlooking Lake Ontario in Scarborough. In 1992, after 35 years and
one day’s service, Betty retired from the Fire Department. After
retirement, Betty and Fred moved to Cobourg where they enjoyed many
more years by the lake. In recent years, they moved to Hamilton to be
close to Peter and his family. Betty will be remembered for her sweet
and gentle demeanor and her beaming smile.
Special thanks to the staff at the Village of Wentworth Heights for
their care and compassion in Betty's final years.
