Luke L. Libbey Obituary

Lincoln - It is with extreme sorrow that the family of Luke Landon Libbey of Lincoln, Maine, announce his untimely passing on February 26, 2024, from pancreatic cancer with his wife by his side. Luke was the cherished son of Dean and Gina Libbey of Mattawamkeag, born on April 27, 1978. He is the beloved father of Dominic Libbey, Jillian Libbey, Marissa Libbey and Bennett Libbey; devoted husband to Danielle, and stepfather to Abigail and Evan Theriault.

Luke grew up in a large loving family with his sister, Aimee Libbey, and brother, Tyler Libbey, as his closest and best lifelong friends. Luke had a personality as big as all outdoors with many friends and colleagues across the state and the country. He had a very successful career as a salesman and then sales manager at Unifirst Company in Bangor. Luke won many top salesman awards which afforded him many wonderful trips to warmer climates. He had a big presence not only from his size, being 6'3" with shoulders once compared to that of a Buick, but he had a genuine love of people that came across in his humor and wit. But for all that success, his biggest love was for family, especially for his children, and making sure that we all knew it. He has coached all of his children at the rec. level in baseball, softball, football and basketball. He had spent many hours working with rec. teams and traveling across the state often competing in state games. It was important to him to show his children and the kids in his charge good sportsmanship, leadership and skills.

Luke was a consummate story and joke teller to young and old. His favorite places involved being on the water be it Nana and Papa's pool, where he learned to swim and where he taught his kids, or at the family camp at Madacasgal Pond swimming and boating with aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, or at the ocean. Many years ago, he instituted an annual men's weekend at Madacasgal from which many great memories have been made. Luke was an alum of Mattanawcook Academy where he excelled in sports and where he was a great Lynx fan, as well as being one of the biggest Green Bay Packers fans ever. He was a proud cheese head wearer from way back even going so far as walking into Foxborough Stadium to watch his team and the Patriots play while dressed in full Packers gear and being jeered and ridiculed by mothers with babies and grandmas. He was more than a little wary at the time but loved it.

Luke was predeceased by his grandparents, Barbara and Lyman Albert, and Marlene and Herbert Libbey Jr; great-grandparents, Theresa and Herbert Libbey Sr., and Memory and Ralph Gagnon; and Aunt Dale Hanscom and Kip Pelkey. He is survived by his wife, Danielle; mother and father, Dean and Gina Libbey; children, Dominic (Ardyn Weatherbee), Jillian, Marissa, and Bennett Libbey; stepchildren, Abigail and Evan Theriault; sister, Aimee Libbey (Chad Stratton) and family; brother, Tyler Libbey (Libby Caldwell) and family; uncles and aunts, Kip and Shari Albert and family, Rick and Sherryl Albert and family, Brian and Lisa Albert, Dina and Bill Fenn and family, Becky and Delmont Hanscom and family, Dale Hanscom's family, Dixie and Brent Watson and family, Darrell and Lori Libbey and family, and great-aunt and uncle, Theresa and Gerald Clifford and family; father and mother-in-law, Teresa and Steve Hanington; brother and sister-in law, Eric and Krista Hanington and family; and many more aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Because he came from such a large family with many treasured friends, he will be remembered forever.

A celebration of Luke's life will be held on Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m. at the Mattanawcook Academy Gymnasium in Lincoln. A reception will follow, and the family invites friends and loved ones to join us at the Knights of Columbus Hall on the South Lincoln Road in Lincoln. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Lincoln. Messages of condolence may be expressed at Luke's Book of Memories at lamsonfh.com.
